The disaster of Mexican affordable public housing makes Obamacare look like a picnic.

T(h)ink, I am shocked and very sad (again and again), although I am not surprised; we all know how corruption, lacking engagement, unsustainable profit strategies, rip-off practices and criminal energy can damage whole regions and countries.

Some examples:

Just so the elites in government and business can make themselves even richer, Marianne.

Yes, T(h)ink - I think that all of us have very similar feelings:

I've always felt sorry for the people of Mexico! Probably the most corrupt government in the world! This doesn't really surprise me. Neither does the fact that so many want to live in the U.S. where at least they have a chance to live in peace and not squallor. The drug cartels there pretty much run the country and the people are used like slaves for them. Affordable housing? Ha! Only if you run drugs over the borders and do what you are told.

California has a high Mexican population and I've found them not only to be some of the nicest people I know but also the hardest working.

I really don't think Mexico will ever change and for that? I feel very bad for them.

I think vast corruption is endemic in most Latin American countries, Rooster, although I also think we've gone a long way down that road too.

Somehow I missed this question, more than a month ago now! Tink, the article is astounding...are you indicating the economic system of Mexico is primarily socialism? Or, where is the corrupt socialism aspect?

I looked up the government of Mexico, sounds like it's patterned after ours (USA)...if so, might this article show where ours could end up? Regarding the housing projects, I copied this out; "When streets flood because of inadequate grading — a common problem in the summer — fraying generator cables strewn across streets become submerged, sending electrical currents coursing through knee-high water."

Looking for USA programs that might be somewhat parallel in national scope to this housing project in Mexico, one could mention the Carnegie libraries, or the freeway system of the Eisenhower administration - both of which seemed to come off fine, at least compared to this fiasco!

The large article eventually did freeze my computer, but I think I saw that 20 million people tried to move into these neighborhoods? And it DOES mention that some people became rich from this debacle...

Virginia, the corrupt socialism aspect is the pretense on the part of the politicians that this was an affordable housing project.

And yes, we may be going down the same road; see my comment to Rooster above.

by

So, Tink...even with the foreign investors and all that, you are saying it is likely the politicians KNEW beforehand this project would never work as promised, it was plunder from the beginning????

by

Yes, Virginia, that's exactly what I'm saying. The politicians knew what was going to happen, but they didn't care, as long as the bribe was right.

If worse came to worst, and they had to flee the country, they could always live the rest of their lives in high style from the proceeds safely stashed in hidden bank accounts abroad.

Just to acknowledge your post about the politicians, ty Tink.

(The Munch Scream seems more and more appropriate, here...)
