I just now heard Wild's rendering of Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody #2, and it took my breath away...listened on the radio, then found it on YouTube and listened again! It is haunting and powerful, earthy and mystical all at the same time.

And apparently, even though Wild is recognized as one of the greatest 20th century pianists, still not all that many people know of him...did you? I can only hope that somewhere, Franz Liszt (1811-1886) is aware that his music is still so loved as this man does!

I was aware of his doing Rhapsody in Blue, but I hadn't heard his performance of the Liszt.  Outstanding! :)

But speaking of thrilling performances, listen to this:  :O

omg TINK!!!

The Lisitsa is splendorous...jaw-dropping...I never cared all that much for Hungarian Rhapsody 2...but never heard those do it...until today.

I had no idea of what it could be.

I have never heard of him before. I'm sorry. His music is quite extraordinary. Would have been interesting to watch him play the piano!

I agree, Rooster! The Gershwin is very different from the Liszt, and he really does both beautifully.
