I do feel they've been getting closer and closer to making it a chronic illness, as apposed to a terminal illness. Chronic illness is the medical establishment's bread and butter. They did it with HIV, in relatively short time, however, cancer is a bit more multi-faceted. It's getting there, though.
It's not in the best interest for pharmaceutical companies to cure cancer. They make more money treating the disease than stamping it out.
