We always did, yes. Not that many smoke in the service anymore and that's where that came from.
I heard the custom came from trench warfare, probably in WW1. By the time the third guy on the match lit up at night, the enemy sniper had time to get a bead on him and shoot.

I don't know till now about this. I don't want people to spend such things among public or to the new generation. Here, if a cat before your path then its a bad luck for you. This makes some people not to own a cat.
Here in the US, it is bad luck only if a black cat crosses your path; other cat colors are harmless.
On the other hand, if the cat happens to be a tiger, then it probably doesn't matter what its coloration is.
