I've won a few chess trophies, one for running, and one unlikely one for calling square dances. All of those were pretty humdrum-- anybody could have won them.
But the one I valued most, the one that lifted me from the realm of the ordinary to the starry ranks of the masters, came from my kids' football club. I used to produce their weekly newsletter and, apart from the team reports and news, I included lots of snarky little snippets about club members. The first year I had the newsletter I was called up on presentation day and awarded a large wooden spoon as shit-stirrer of the year -- an honour well-deserved.
