If you have seen the movie or the play, Sister Aloysius believes that Father Flynn has molested an 8th grade student. She has a personal vendetta against Father Flynn and even told a lie to get the priest to leave the parish. So, the movie lets you hanging with you pondering, "Did he or didn't he?"
In my opinion, Father Flynn did not molest the student. He simply befriended him because the boy was being picked on by the other classmates because he was the only Black student in the school.
