I rarely get stressed. When I do I try to work out why and then do something about it.
In the late 1940s a guy called Keith Miller was one of the stars of the Australian cricket team. He never showed any signs of stress and never seemed to feel any pressure before a big match. A journalist once asked him about it and he said, "Stress is what you feel when there's a Messerschmidt on your arse at 12,000 feet. Cricket is only a game."
It's true that he narrowly escaped some near-death situations, but they were caused primarily by his own malfunctioning aircraft and V-1 rockets, rather than by a Messerschmitt on his tail.
A most interesting article. Thanks for taking the trouble to look it up. Just the same, it wasn't a bad quote, even if it wasn't necessarily based on his personal experience., Or, at least, on his day-to-day personal experience. I should think even once would be enough to put things in perspective. :)
I flew to New Zealand in 1998 and, as we crossed the Tasman, we caught the tail end of a hurricane, further north. We were bouncing all over the sky and the young Japanese girl beside me was getting progressively more agitated. Finally she said, "Excuse me, but are we going to..." and with her hand she pantomimed diving into the sea. I said, "No. Were fine. It's been like this every time I've flown across here." Yeah, Right, It was my first time but she didn't need to know that.
I listen to a Sounds of Nature CD that has a flowing stream, the wind, the ocean, rain, celestial echoes, etc. It works!
Watching movies and TV shows

Interesting story, nevertheless.
Fortunately we all survived.
White lies can be be of much benefit. :-)
it would depend entirely on the depth of it, and whether it were physical, emotional, or some combination thereof.
