There is an ancient orchard up on the side of the small mountain where I hunt. In it are varieties that probably reach back at least 80-90 years. I have no idea there variety, but obviously, they are old.....and the flavor is absolutely wonderful.
I always load the cargo pockets of my trousers and hunting jacket on the way out, then make a pie with them. They're wonderful.
