When are people going to learn about Facebook and Twitter ? Anything you say is going public ! Although I agree she's ugly, I sure wouldn't have said "gorilla" . Then again, every time I see the avatar of this asker? I get the shivers !
Yeah, putting something like that on Facebook was almost as dumb as a crooked Secy of State putting classified information on her unsecured private server.
But the crooked Secy of State didn't have to worry about losing her job... in fact she'll likely get a promotion because the fix was in with the FBI and DOJ.
So if a group of people of a certain ethnicity do something you don't like, then it is ok to throw a relatively infrequently-used epithet at them, like Rep. Johnson did?
Gorilla is worse because it is more often used than termite? Interesting logic.
Would it then follow that if anti-black racists started using more unusual epithets it would somehow become ok?
In that case, the obvious answer is that one should simply state his objections, and give reasoned arguments for his position, without the name-calling.
But of course, that is probably too much to ask from an individual who thought Guam might tip over if 8000 marines were stationed there.
And if you don't think 'almost like termites' was a good thing to say, why shouldn't Rep. Johnson of GA (same state the fired teacher's aide is from) be recalled, or failing that, at least be censured by the House?
There is no accounting for taste, but there is no need to insult anybody.
Too many people are prompt to judge individuals according to fashion trends, images and beauty standards, or rumours, opinions, half-truths and myths, without bothering to look "behind the scenes".
Shouldn't we look in our own backyard first?
By the way, if looking into the beauty of celebrities - and First Ladies or Queens:
they are not just stereotyped, empty fashion models; they are mothers with their worries, caring for their family; most are professionally active women, involved in public duties, social, welfare, business and similar tasks - whether appreciated or not.
And - sorry to say that - Homo sapiens sapiens is a primate and from the same order as apes, monkeys, lemurs, tarsiers, lorisoids:
Justice served! She should have been fired!
But you can bet Rep. Hank Johnson (D, GA) wasn't fired from his job, neither for racism nor for incompetence.

"Every time I see the avatar of this asker? I get the shivers!"
O.K. You made a nasty remark. Now, you place your real photo as an avatar and only then you can make a criticism.
See what I can do !
There's your picture . Got anything else to say ? I bet not.
I'm usually opposed to people being fired for what they say online, but in this case I think it was the right call
Absolutely!
But only if she's a Republican, right?
Democrats like Johnson get off Scot-free.
If she called Ben Carson a gorilla I'd be saying the same thing.
@ Fuzzy:
But what would you say if Rep. Johnson (D,GA) says Jewish Israeli West Bank settlers are "almost like termites"?

It's fundamentally different, I'm not exactly sure what my opinion is.

And what about the first part of the statement? That settling in Palestinian territories is a. unjustified and b. causing more violence in the region?
And I don't think it was a good thing to say.

If we cannot love on command, we can at least make the effort to respect each other.
I think Jetsun Pema and Angelica Rivera take the prize.
Lol, congrats, you hit the nail on the head - they really look good - very good - that is first class!
