There were quite a few classic books, which have left a lasting memory or impression. I would have to write a long list about French, German, Italian and other European literature from classics to modern literature and poetry.
O.K., regarding English writers, there are lots of impressing stories and balads - too many again to choose only one. For today, I took a random pick and the winner is a wolf and dog hybrid, Jack London's White Fang:
The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, by B. Traven. I read the book when I was 10 or 12 years old, then later saw the Bogart movie on TV. Wow... just wow.

I don't think I ever read White Fang, but I do remember Call of the Wild.
Yes, the Call of the Wild is famous, like many other classics.
But many other, less known stories are also impressive - and very instructive.
