Only to change the structure of the question AFTER it has been answered? Does it make the people answering the question look silly... or the asker?

I think it makes the asker look kind of odd. Haven't seen much of any of it here but have on other sites and it does get irritating. You spend your time answering something as best you can and then they come back and edit the question and some answers make no sense. No, it's the person who asks and then edits them that is the fool.

Angela, I have not really encountered that...I did see one post where the answer pointed out a mistake made in the question, so the poster fixed it...thus the answer made no sense but you could see the "paper trail."

Anybody can make errors, and the formulation of questions or finding a convenient title can cause quite a headache to many.

Also strong emotions, worries, time pressure and other disturbing elements can cause quite a few more or less experienced people to getting "mixed up" or to being awkward.

It is so easy to criticise other people for acting in a different way, without knowing much about them or what they are going through.

Angela, Marianne's comment makes me think of something else...online communication seems to be a very different way of expressing yourself...it is so easy to get misunderstood, looking like nonsense, and there you are in black-and-white for the whole life of the Internet, however long that may be...

Anyway I enjoyed your Q and hope we explore more of how the online expression works!
