Well...we used to pick the dandelions and then me and my friend Margie-Lou would make dandelion wine...does that count?

(It was really delicious, too!)

Lol - with my grandma, we picked young dandelions - the leaves - for salads (with some dices of bacon and eggs, of course).

That dish is occasionally done here also, Marianne! I have tried it...but (as you will already know) you have to pick the leaves very young or they are bitter! But thus very good for you...I wish I had thought of that this spring, prolly kinda late now!

If I recall correctly, the dandelion is not native the North America, but hitch-hiked over here with the immigrants...and I enjoyed the etymology of that one, so long age: dent-de-lion, tooth of the lion, from the points on the leaves!

Yes, I actually have! Being in WV, it's not hard to come by here! When I was in high school, my dad had some in a gallon jug (wasn't full) he would light it on fire...blue flame :P.....I took a swing and that's the LAST time I drank it!

Interesting - but I did not have the occasion to taste this mythic brew.

Here, some mythic, formerly illegal "preparations" referred, among others, to a certain "green fairy":
