"This month the official People's Liberation Army Daily spelt out on social media 10 reasons why so many potential recruits fall at the first hurdle.

It said 20 percent were overweight while eight percent were refused because they had an enlarged testicular vein.

The newspaper did not spell out how army officers knew about the vein issue but said the problems were caused by too much masturbation, too many video games and not enough exercise."

I never heard about the vein before... I would have thought they would have hairy palms or vision issues.   :) :D

Hard to think that China would put anything on social media as it's so restricted there. They have what they call the Intranet. I've never seen a fat Chinese person in my life. A recent book I read told of all the food shortages and starving people while the big shots live in luxury! Maybe it's all the smog that has something in it that makes the males want to masturbate so much. This is all news to me but I did read your article. Hard to tell if it's just some nonsense propaganda that got out or it's for real. Hey! Most Chinese girls are pretty darn good looking! Or maybe they've been getting an influx of Western porn that make them want to spank the monkey so much.

I'm sorry Tink but this just doesn't match much of what I've read about China lately. Disinformation?

by

Hello, Rooster - no, it is no disinformation, and the phenomenon is not so recent.

by

@ Rooster:

It's always been a given that the big shots in Communist countries live high on the hog. Some are more equal than others, of course, in egalitarian societies of that kind. :D

And yes, Chinese girls are often good-looking, but there is a shortage, so maybe some of the guys are turning to... um... other means.  And maybe the Japanese will start marketing female robots in China, for the few who can afford them.  :D :D

by

Lol, T(h)ink, they have already their own female robots:

@ Marianne,

Yes, but it is a joint venture with a Japanese company.  The Chinese probably want to steal the trade secrets. :D

"What? You want my other body parts too?  Especially that one?  I thought you just wanted to have a nice conversation! "

Well, T(h)ink, I don't think that they need to steal any more - they buy ...

Wow - indeed, the Western "fast food" and industrial cultures, unhealthy life styles, sedentary work, pollution, stress, computer and gaming systems, etc., have had their negative impacts, in most of the world, also in China:

And even the healthiest things or activities can cause problems, if overdosed ...

I don't know why Indians and Chinese are always fighting in Youtube comment section. I have nothing against Chinese but reading those comments gives negative feelings.

by

@Dan

They have a long past of mostly conflictual situations, in spite of their trading relations:

by

@ Dan,

Well, there is a rather tense border between India and China, with disputed territory and numerous incidents.  Maybe that has something to do with the nasty comments.

@ Dan,

Yes, but how many of them result in frequent armed border clashes?

Hi Other Tink,

Well I found some information on (that great medical pundit) Wikipedia, plus the Mayo Clinic site...

The enlarged testicular vein, I think that is what these sites call VARICOCOELE, and it occurs in about 15% of males anyway! Varicocoele is similar to varicose veins in other parts of the body. The cause is unknown, but these sites suggests a) genetic malformation, or b) flaw in the venous valves that results in the blood backing up, and damaging the venous wall.

As for the increasing overweight, well, I go along with Marianne's idea of encroaching Western diet, too many MacDonald Happy Meals...

by

@ Virginia,

Well, to be scientific, the Mayo Clinic people would have to make sure somehow, that the 15% with the varicocoeles aren't the ones who... um... overindulge.   :) :D

Interestingly, the occurrence of varicocoele seems to be INVERSELY correlated with overweight, occurring much more frequently in underweight males. I guess the skinny guys... um... abuse themselves more.

Oh it is SO impressive, O'Tink....your perspicacious observations being SO VERY sci-un-tiffik, here and all...  :P  ;)...great contribution, good job well done!

by

Thank you, Virginia.  Your praise is much appreciated, especially regarding such a... um... delicate topic.   :) :D

by

Yes!! Them delicate topics REQUIRE fully objective science...:D

by

There's NOTHING like being scientific in these matters... :)

by

Lol, Virginia, you dared - I omitted to give the link about the varicocele; I giggled too much ...

:O:blush::angel::D:D:D

by

Yah Marianne, I'm too old to worry much about those kinda things now...

And O'Tink, I could not help notice (with delight) that within the very clinical constraints of that scientific study, thirteen women attained climax and only eleven men!

by

Lol, Virginia - I couldn't help laughing - I was enjoying too much your and T(h)ink's comments ...

:D:D:D

by

@ Virginia,

And in TWO minutes:O  They must have been... um... prepped before the tracer was injected.

And maybe the good doctor also provided soft music and candle light.  :)

by

I loved the part about the female brain just totally given over to the experience, while the male brains retained some alertness to the surroundings...protecting everybody from danger on those primordial African savannas!

by

@ Virginia,

Either that, or the male was watching for her husband.  :O :) :D

by

Tink I had to read that about three times...finally 'got' it...with a burst of laughter!
