Haven't seen the blue sky in a couple of weeks!

Why is there so little info about how they are started? Just makes me mad that it always burns!

I guess it's a seasonal combination of lack of rain, making the forests overly dry, combined with wind patterns that quickly spread fires once they start.  I suppose they can start from lightning strikes, careless campers, or maybe someone flicking a still-lighted cigarette butt out of their car.

I hope none of those fires are near you, Rooster!

@Tink : So far? I've been lucky but the air quality is horrible!

Thanks for thinking of me. :)

Hi Rooster,

A long time ago, one of my closest friends was a weatherman, and he had come to a remarkable understanding of how to study the land and how...

Apparently, one science that people have never considered adequately is how to really adapt our living to cycles of an ecosystem. California just makes me tremble...all the devastation there each summer now...in some places fanned by Santa Ana winds...

* * *

Some areas probably should never be built at all, others with a very low density of homes. Sometimes, fire suppression leads to buildup of natural detritus; tinder-dry over decades, so that when a fire does finally break through the suppression methods, the destruction is far worse.

As you already know I am cynical about life in general right now, but I see here the likelihood that the push to make money by building homes in unsafe conditions has taken priority over the safety of those who live there.

And I don't know what we can do about it, at this point.

@Virginia: This is very true! Shame to see so much burn every year! Soon, we won't have any forest left here!
