I don't think he planned to buy it with 'his' money. He is talking about 'the U.S' buying Greenland.

I thought Denmark was not likely to sell Greenland. They sold the U.S. Virgin Islands (i.e., the Danish West Indies) to the US in 1917 partly because they got recognition of their claim to Greenland (against Norwegian claims) from the US, plus a lot of money for a colony that had not been profitable to Denmark for the better part of 100 years.

Well, if you really take a look at Greenland, it's loaded with resources. Sure wouldn't hurt us!

More than 200 years of collection and study of minerals in Greenland has led to the discovery of gold, rubies, diamonds, coppers, olivine, marble and oil, and no less than app. 75 new mineral species are found.

Rare Earth materials also.
