Hi Sirfurryanimal,

Well I tend to keep my computers going longer than anybody else prolly...before finally getting this iMac (kicking and screaming), I had only two computers ever and they each lasted me twelve years!

I purchased a Gateway PC in 1998, and it turned out to have a brand of hard drive that was defective and usually gave out within a year. And twelve years later by 2010 the hard drive was indeed going out, I could tell by the flashes that yes it was not long for this world. But everything else worked fine and the hard drive was still going when I donated it for refurbishing to be used to teach school children...I think it's fairly easy to replace a hard drive? Anyway I had used that old Gateway to write three books, two of which were local history of the Mt. Baker area in Washington State, copies of which are likely still in the local schools there.

Then in 2006 I got a 15-inch MacBook Pro, took it with me  when I left Washington State for Iowa in 2010, and then for the whole ten months I was homeless in 2015-16 it was my lifeline. It finally gave out in August of last year...crashing into the notorious Black Screen of Death when it was 12+ years old. So I dropped offline until I got this iMac and finally got conversant with that (another LONG time)...okay that is the whole story for you!

A pair of working cowboy boots that were bought for me and I checked them out and thought these won't last. 3 years later and I still wear them almost every day. They're my best working boots out here.

My Vizio 48" TV that I bought years ago now. It's my bedroom TV and I was going to replace it with a new "smart" TV but it just won't die. Never thought a Vizio would last more than a year or os but I sure was wrong!

My cheap curling iron!  In the past, I've never had one last more than a year or so ....but this one has held on for over six years.
