Good question.I have no idea.And none of the articles online about it mention it either.

'Tis glorious...do you know why they tore it down, SFA? Was it getting rickety and too difficult to repair?

Train services had been axed and yes-it was deemed to be too expensive to keep as an historical monument.Repairs were needed as maintenance was not continued after train services ended.
