https://www.ancient.eu/Chepstow_Castle/ I see they’ve put up some safety rails since i was last there.

If you think modern doors are long-lasting, think again. Chepstow boasts the oldest castle doors in Europe. All wood and all of 800 years old. Until 1962 these doors hung in the main gateway, but are now in safekeeping in the on-site display. Let’s just say it would be nigh on impossible to find a replacement.

It looks as if Vikings may have tried to break the doors down at least once. :O

SFA did I miss something? why are you invading England if Chepstow Castle is in Wales? Truly glorious, wherever it may be!

*** Oh I just watched the video SFA, and the castle is of the legacy of William the Conqueror, begun 1067!

Oh and I am (mentally) adding all these fascinating places into the itinerary when Tink and I come to visit Wales with you, starting with that huge rock from the order of Stone Circles...of course we must not omit the smallest house in Great Britain, after going through this castle....and we will want to go through some tunnels, too...

When we visit, SFA can act as  chaperone, so that we don't run afoul of that well-endowed chap who was right up Sally's alley.  :D :D :D

Oh Tink we discuss SUCH things of momentous import here on Solved...

...and I did want to tell you, I gave my cousin the link you found with Rudy Giuliani; and it helped her understand what was behind the demonstrations in D.C. There in the Okanogan Highlands, there is no Internet as such, although she does have an iPhone.

Virginia-I have a long standing joke with an English friend on another forum.Whenever I visit England I let her know I’m ‘invading’ and she tells me how she’s going to repel me!

Chepstow is right on the border.Simply crossing the river puts me in England! And Tutshill ,which is on the other side is rather nice.

N'kay then, your explanation is satisfactory and accepted, SFA! ...and I did see this impressive castle is on the limestone cliffs overlooking the River Wye... :) ...and, glad to see that the long (centuries) rivalry between England and Wales is still properly and historically honored by you and your online friend, here...

SFA, the ghost of Purcell is going to have to revise the words of this number...
