It would have been better if they haven't destroyed it!
They probably didn't want the locals to occupy the fort, in case the Romans wanted to return someday.
The screaming Roman dragon reminded me of the screaming sirens of the Stuka dive bombers. I got scared when I heard them in the movie theater, watching Dunkirk.
