I heard Overcomer Ministry Radio from Southern Carolina on shortwave a few times. It is a Protestant Christian radio station.

I only hear broadcast FM rarely. The last time was like 2 years ago. Shortwave radio has a significantly longer reach compared to broadcast FM, which operates between 88 and 108 MHz. Shortwave transmissions can cover distances of several thousand miles, enabling communication from one continent to another.

Shortwave radio, a form of radio transmission using frequencies usually between 1.6 and 30 MHz, is known for its long-range capabilities. The distance shortwave radio can cover is greatly influenced by various factors including atmospheric conditions, the power of the transmitter, antenna type, and the specific frequency used. Under ideal conditions, these frequencies can travel thousands of kilometers by bouncing off the ionosphere, allowing them to bridge vast distances across continents and oceans.

  1. South Carolina to Serbia: Yes, it is feasible for a shortwave radio signal to travel from South Carolina, USA to Serbia. This connection often relies on atmospheric conditions like the ionosphere's state, which can be favorable for long-distance shortwave communication.
  2. South Carolina to Chennai, Tamil Nadu: This too is possible under the right conditions. The signal would need to cover a longer distance compared to Serbia, but given the right atmospheric conditions, especially during certain times of the day or year, this connection can be made.

These communications are best during the night or near sunrise and sunset when the ionosphere is most reflective. It's important to note that reliable communication isn’t guaranteed and can be influenced by solar activity and other atmospheric phenomena.
