DID NOAH FISH?

A Sunday school teacher asked, "Johnny, do you think Noah did a lot of fishing when he was on the Ark?"
"No," replied Johnny. "How could he, with just two worms."

Love it, Marianne.

Isaac Asimov told this Sunday School story.

A little girl, whose mother asked what she had learned, said, "We learned about an Israeli general called Moses who was leading an army on a retreat from Egypt. The Egyptians were pursuing them with tanks and Moses was forced back upon the Red Sea, where he faced annihilation. Calling for air cover, he threw a pontoon bridge across..."

Mother was aghast and broke in with, "Surely that's not what you were taught?"

"Well, not exactly, Mom. But if I told it to you the way the teacher told it to me, you'd never believe it."

I don´t really get the joke yet. Can you explain a little what it is.

amberleechoo
Biblical reference (Noah took the animals two by two into the Ark...)
Fishing reference - putting worms on a hook to catch fish (generally done in fresh water, lakes etc.)

Oh okay

Lol, Gun gave the correct answer - there are, of course, many species and subspecies of worms, but according to Noahs story, there were only two of them, a couple - as they did not seem to know much about the various orders of invertebrates and even some vertebrates or larvae, called worms in these times, and that the real worms are hermaphrodites.

Oh come now, Marianne.

Surely there is more than one kind of worm, not to mention MANY kinds of flies; Noah could have done fly fishing as well, so yes, he could have done lots of fishing.

Lol - it is only a joke. But in these times they only referred to a limited selection of main species of animals to save, in pairs. There was no mention that there are many different species and orders of worms or worm-like creatures, normally hermaphrodites, and even very different kinds, like vertebrates, and larvae were called worms.

Well, perhaps Noah could have caught some flies, if they were not eaten by the birds - chuckling ...

Lol, of course it's only a joke, as was my response.  :-)

Lol - of course.
