Regarding the onions, that will certainly help in limiting the spread of the flu.  No one will want to go near the patient.

Lol - onions are not as "strong" as garlic to "keep at a safe distance". And there is the "bark of the willow tree", resp. it's salicin, to reduce fever and ease pains ...
And we should not forget about vitamin C!
