Tragic though it was, the sinking of the Titanic was nothing compared with what was to start a little over two years later: WW1, with its 38 million military and civilian casualties, not to mention the horrors that WW1 spawned in the 25 years following.
That is a significantly higher number of casualties. Very sobering.
