On this issue, I agree with Mitt Romney.

I assumed that was a requirement to be President of the United States?  Even to consider otherwise shows how bad things have become.  Donald Trump as President ??  Even your Postal carrier has the requirement to show his returns before getting the job.

You assumed incorrectly.  Release of tax returns by presidential candidates is voluntary.

Ah, it appears my assumption was incorrect.  It's surprising though, of all the listed candidates that did show their records (since the 1970's), Trump of all people would declare that he would not.  I suspect his net worth is far less than he would like us to think.  His projection of wealth is so much a part of his persona, I don't believe he would ever agree to release his returns.  I doubt that he ever really thought he would get as far as he has and what, oh what is he to do now?

A blustering billionaire, Trump,

Once SAID, with a Faustian pump:

"The Dems are dumb fools,

And the Repubs are tools;

They ALL can just GO kiss my rump!"

I think you are right that Trump never expected, at the outset, to get this far.

Similarly, in that respect, I think neither Obama nor his handlers expected him to beat Hillary in 2008; they were preparing for a future run, maybe 8 years later.

And that, of course, is the primary reason we have had such an unprepared, bumbling incompetent in the White House for the past 8 years.  But who knows?  Hillary might have been just as bad, if her performance as Sec'y of State is any indication.

Bumbling?  Obama will be seen as one of the greatest Presidents to ever lead this nation.  Despite an obstinate and useless Congress (which bought them the likes of Trump & Cruz), he managed to give us healthcare, something pass administrations could not accomplish. Lest us not forget what kind of a mess this President inherited from the previous administration. People have short memories.

Obama, one of the greatest...?

Obama's bumbling is what led to the Democrats losing first the House, and then the Senate, much to Nancy's and Harry's dismay.

That's some maniacal laugh. Remember the GOP declaring itself the "Party of NO", shortly after the President was sworn into office?  The problem with that was they were also saying no to the business of the nation, thumbing their noses to the American people.  Now, the voters say NO, to GOP establishment.  If Obama could run for a third term, he'd win in a landslide.

by

My, my, I just CAN'T imagine how the Democrats lost the House and Senate (in landslides) if the Republicans were thumbing their noses at the American people.

And as to whether Obama would win a third term, well, fortunately that question is moot, but it would also depend on whom he was running against.  Given the present crop, then yeah, it would be likely, but that's mostly an indication of how abysmally low the level of American politics has sunk.
