When I was little, I loved to wander through five&dime stores, particularly McCrory's and Woolworth, and maybe getting a snack at their lunch counters. I liked looking at all the things they had for sale (most of them more than 10c, to be sure). I remember wondering how they could afford all the immense floor space they occupied, selling such low-cost items. By the time I was a teenager, they had gone out of business. :'(
