...and just for the record, I say the world is LUCKY to have Welshmen about...I mean, without them we would have none of the profound literary poetic masterpieces below, earliest publishing located as 1744!

AND THEN, just to maintain the educational reputation of SOLVED, here is this wonderful tidbit from Wikipedia: 'The term "Taffy" (pronounced with a short "a" to rhyme with Daffy Duck) may be a merging of the common Welsh name "Dafydd" and the Welsh river "Taff" on which Cardiff is built, and seems to have been in use by the mid-eighteenth century.'

...and so I learn something else on this highly educational channel, because I did not even know Wales had a River Taff, much less that Cardiff was built along it!

And if you were known as Taff on the other site, then is it quite common nickname for Welsh?

Plus, Wikipedia had the nursery rhyme wrong, at least according to my Tall Book of Nursery Rhymes from 1945 or so! I remember it very well, because I learned to read in 1949 (that was prolly before anyone else on here was even born yet), and this is how that nursery rhyme went!

Taffy was a Welshman, Taffy was a thief;

I went to Taffy's house, Taffy wasn’t home; 

Taffy came to my house and stole a marrow bone.

 I went to Taffy’s house, Taffy was in bed;

Could be...yeah -Taff is a common name for a Welshman.

I know that rhyme...probably one or two other versions around.
