I watched THE DURAN this morning, and they see a crackdown -- police breaking up the protest -- as a likely option.

That other governments are now concerned about similar protests forming in their own countries (UK, Scotland, Wales, USA, Australia, Netherlands), and are very possibly putting pressure on Justin Trudeau to put an end to the Canadian protests.

And that at this point, Trudeau cannot negotiate with the truckers without seeming weak...

Also, these commentators are speculating that the Canadian government may stage an incident which they can blame on the truckers, as an excuse for the armed crackdown. Scary times...

Trudeau has to be very cautious about an armed crackdown.

That might ignite a nationwide truckers' strike. And then who will move the goods? The Mounties? The Army?

This could lead to a vote of no confidence and new elections.

Yes...possible new elections...there is apparently a parallel from England, where a PM was trying to deal with a coal miners' strike. He called for elections, saying, who do you want to listen to, me or the miners?

The miners had the popular sympathy, and the PM's party was voted out.

And yes, the truckers are certainly vital to the economy! ...Tink, do you have hopes then, do you see it as a possibility that Trudeau might indeed meet with the truckers for exchange of viewpoints and negotiations?

He might, if he hasn't already painted himself into a corner. I'm not really sure.

But if there is a strike, Trudeau can always count on the RCMP to move the goods!  :)

Well, remembering the old Chinese curse, Tink, we do seem to be "living in interesting times"...!

...and you do have remarkable knowledge of all kinds of history; whereas I can recall, probably the 1950's, when Sgt. Preston (and his wonder dog Yukon King) were my actual heroes, in his red coat, and the cereal was so impressive because it was shot from guns, too!

Yes, but what is going on in Canada is relatively minor compared to the Ukraine crisis. :(

I have been following that more, since you posted on it...yes it does not look good.

A friend in Canada is firmly behind these truckers...and the only surprise to me is didn’t happen sooner.

People are tired of restrictions and just want to live.

And I support the right NOT to be vaccinated which started this.

Can’t see such protests here...we are pretty much restriction free.

Thanks, Sir Furry...I have been amazed at the resistance of Ottawa to even talking with the truckers.

I just saw mention of an editorial in the Wall Street Journal, to the effect that Canadians are arguably the most law-abiding nation in the world, and if the gov has lost the Canadian people, they are in trouble!

I have always loved Canada, living most of my life within a few hours of the British Columbia border -- and Canadians are known for their courtesy, their warm friendliness, and doing things very properly! So I also was QUITE surprised to see how they have mobilized behind the truckers for this...good for Canada!

I heard of the protests. I support vaccination but I would not force drivers to vaccinate.

i agree Kninjanin...I certainly would never force people to get vaccinated.

Yes I already saw this, Kninjanin...and just now watched it again. I always considered Canada especially dedicated to citizen rights and well-being, and Canadian people as among of the most law-abiding in the world.

But now, the government true colors are really emerging.
