Sometimes it will but other times it won't.  It all counts on the person's emotions.

Telling someone to "Calm down" isn't going to ease their Anxiety or soothe their Worries away.

I Calm People down in my own Unique way , often with humour or Disco   lolz

Tried , tested , true   :)

sometimes when you slap'em first :P
I don't advise slapping them, that can just piss them off even more, but I knew this guy that when he got drunk their wasn't nothing but physical contact that was going to get him to stop and listen, and if didn't always work when the little guys did it, I was one of the bigger guys and he wouldn't charge me too often, I kept him out of jail a couple of times with smacks to the head and told him "cop" or "security" (sometimes there wasn't even a cop or security, but he needed to calm down)

Sometimesit can make it even worse and make the person evn more angry depending on how the other person says it.

Definitely NOT in my case.  It always backfires and I feel worse.  I have to try different approaches to calm down by myself.

It doesn't work for me.

My oldest who is in his 20's decided on a better tactic. On the rare occasion when I'm spitting mad, he'll walk up and ask me if I need any help. His kindness in the face of my anger always has diffused my anger.

When all else fails, they send in the cat. She has a way of charming me that will work when I need it most.
