i would rather have neither. having bad arthritis in my spine, hips, and all other joints in my body.. sitting for such long periods of time is brutal.. i don't even like sitting on a city bus for an hour.
Road trip. I could stop and see all the interesting sites. Stretch at will, with a short walk. No being cooped up next to a talkaholic. I could choose my own companion or go alone.
Actually, if you need to move fast over long distances, a flight is very useful.
But if you are visiting a region and its points of interest, a road trip would allow to stop at every chosen place.
For holiday tours and excursions, time is, usually, a bit less limited, and, depending on the "visiting programme, the distances and the local transport means", flights and the road are great, and I would add the boat, the train, funicular or cable car, hiking, cycling, riding and some other, less conventional means.
It is breathtaking, Hippy. When it's 110, a hike in the shade and water is wonderful. The scenery is a bonus. Sadly it is also a deadly hike. People have died hiking The Narrows. It can be a beautiful day, start raining and then it floods. All in a matter of hours. Once when the kids were young we were camping in Zion, it was a beautiful day. We decided to go on to Bryce but were reluctant. We went. It started raining. The next day we went back and our campground was gone. Every time it happens I hope there was no one hiking The Narrows.
Road trip. No. 1.....I hate flying, but with a road trip, I can make stops and deviate from the itinerary. I fly ONLY as a means.....a road trip offers more variety, at least to me.
If forced to leave my idyllic home setting where I have spent every vacation day for 10 years - I guess I would drive. Too many uncontrollable aspects to flying. Plus, being trapped in a can with hundreds of people for any length of time usually leaves me with some kind of illness shortly afterward.
I wanna stay home! I wanna play with my pups! I wanna garden, or work in my shop. You can't make me go!
Depends on the destinations and the scenery/activities available en route during the car trip.
A road trip would hold so much more memories for me.

At least you can stop on a road trip. Having to just sit around for 8 hours sucks.

I can stop when I want, listen to what I want, have the heat or AC set to how I want, and only have to deal with the people I want to deal with.
