Every senator (including every Democrat) who voted, voted to override Obama, except one.

Who was the holdout?

That's right, Harry Reid, Obama's most faithful water carrier.

P.S. Reid is retiring, won't be running for office again.  :D

You can tell it's silly season (aka election time), when politicians will say anything, or throw anyone under the bus, if they think it will help their election chances.

It will be interesting to see if the question of the wisdom of overriding this veto will be put to the candidates in the next debate.  I'm sure the Clinton campaign at least is working feverishly on a suitably weasel-worded statement on the issue. (e.g., "This whole problem is Bush's fault for not having been alert enough to prevent 9/11 in the first place.")

by

Well, yes, it is a silly and destructive season. Crimes, abuse and corruption are not new.

It's especially ironic that Senator Charles Schumer, heir apparent to Reid as Senate minority or majority leader for the Demoicrats, had this to say about Obama's veto:

" “This [the Obama veto] is a disappointing decision that will be swiftly and soundly overturned in Congress," Schumer, expected to be the next Senate Democratic leader, said in a statement Friday. "I believe both parties will come together next week to make JASTA the law of the land." "

Yes, indeed, I don't like to see this trampling on victims and their families on the behalf of "trade" or "diplomatic" agreements.

I can't forget certain humiliations, only because some minorities dared to defend human rights against big money.

by

Correct.  But generally the politicians listen to money, except near election time.

by

Lol - except near election time?

Even the best intentions need support, volunteers and funds. :):D - shhh ....

LOL, no, of course politicians take money near election time, but at election time they also take positions for the purpose of looking good (or, as in this case, not looking bad) that they wouldn't otherwise.  This particular legislation has been in the works for years, but has been blocked procedurally.  It took the nearness of the election to "unblock" it.

@heOtherTink

Yes, that is what I thought.

By the way, there have been quite a few documentaries about JFK on various channels, and yesterday, a retrospective about Bobby Kennedy.

by

Do they have as many bizarre conspiracy theories about the JFK assassination in Europe as they do in the US?

by

No, not really; there have been many investigations from various sides, and those from France and Germany seem to have produced objective elements, but they also raised further questions. Arte presented lately another, rather complete documentation (still with certain open questions) - unfortunately, I could not find the corresponding video for free.

Here's some info in German (Spiegel + Welt - as you certainly prefer them to Figaro, Le Point, etc.):

This is the correct conclusion:

"Bis vielleicht irgendwann einmal doch ein überzeugendes Beweisstück für das Gegenteil auftaucht, ist die wahrscheinlichste Erklärungen für den frühen Tod von John F. Kennedy, dass Lee Harvey Oswald ihn im Größenwahn erschoss."

Not long ago, my father was stunned when he heard that an old friend of his from high school and his friend's wife had been brutally stabbed to death by burglars who did not want to leave witnesses behind.

Can you imagine?  Murdering two people after stealing about $1000 worth of property?

Fortunately the beasts who did it were caught, but that didn't bring their victims back to life.

by

That is really tragic, and I feel very sad and angry about such crimes.

Here, the Schengen agreement opened the doors to an increased number of crimes:
