According to the Washington Post, the United States has information that the Russians were/are about to stage a false-flag "invasion" of Russia by "Ukrainian forces," to give the Russians a pretext for invading Ukraine.

"U.S. officials say they have evidence that Russia has developed a plan, approved at high levels in Moscow, to create a pretext for invading Ukraine by falsely pinning an attack on Ukrainian forces that could involve alleged casualties not only in eastern Ukraine but also in Russia."

This has an eerie similarity to the preposterous operation carried out by Nazi Germany on the eve of its attack on Poland in WW2. German soldiers were dressed up as Polish troops, sneaked across the border into Poland, and then they turned around and "attacked" a radio station back in Germany.

Tink i have  not been following the Ukraine situation (yet), so I mainly just appreciate your insights.

Also, I did not go to the link...I just don't waste much time on MSN...too much left-wing bias...also quite leery of WA Post, owned by Bezos...

However, I am intrigued by your reminiscence back to Nazis creating excuse to harass Poland...and so would not be surprised.

What I would typically do here is wait for a commentary from a specific journalist whose insights I tend to trust. I would look for Tucker Carlson, John Pilger, a very few others, their (often well-verified) opinion.

The State Dept just made their findings public.

The AP reporter seemed not to like them.

Tink, did you see? Tucker Carlson did tonight (February 4, 2022) take on this Ned Price/Matt Lee exchange; I found his comments helpful, ty Tucker... ;)

...and I'm also adding Matt Lee to the very short list of reporters I might give some credence.

Yes, thank you, Virginia, I did see Tucker's segment.

The "Russian plot" could be American disinformation, Ukrainian disinformation, a third party's disinformation, or it might be true.

Yes...and we live in a time when information from our State Dept. does not help narrow the possibilities...

I can believe that but with leaders from much of Europe visiting Ukraine and Moscow and the focus of the world on the situation I don’t believe Putin will invade,

However our SW friend is concerned something could happen after the Olympics.

I don’t think even Putin  wants a land war in Europe with potentially millions of casualties.

I would be more worried if he started withdrawing his troops.

You don’t attack when everyone is expecting it.

Putin certainly won't invade during the Olympics, and I agree he doesn't want a major land war in any case.

I think he hopes the pressure on Ukraine will eventually bring in a more friendly government, such as the one in Belarus.

With my knowledge of military tactics, Tink has a great comparison there.

This is pretty much a common way to cause confusion and turmoil and by the time anyone really figures out what's happening? Ukraine will be part of Russia again.

Don't really understand why the Russians want it as the Ukrainians welcomed the Germans as liberators against Russia. Always been bad blood between the two!

I think that Ukraine will be in Russia again.

If they are, many Ukrainians will not be happy.

Not after what Great Rus has done to Little Rus so many times.

Biden wants a war between Russia and Ukraine. He wants that USA do not go to war. He just wants to sell weapons to earn money.
